Are you applying for Italian citizenship through marriage? You will need to show your B1 proficiency certificate. We can help you get ready for your upcoming tests.

Since December 8 2018, to apply for Italian Citizenship through marriage the spose must have adequate knowledge of the Italian language and have obtained a B1 proficiency ceritificate. The most recognized Italian language certifications are the CELI (Italian Certification as a Foreign Language) and CILS (Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language).

Language proficiency levels are from the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR) for languages, which defines proficiency levels by outlining six levels, which include A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2, from a beginner user (level A1) to a native-speaking user (level C2).

The B1 level certification demonstrates intermediate proficiency and the ability to use the Italian language for everyday interaction and prove the applicant’s ability to live, work or study in Italy. A B1 level demostrate intermediate ability to communicate and understand topics usually experienced in work, school, travel, and recreational scenarios. The applicant should be able to communicate simple concepts about himself/herself and his/her interests, and provide descriptions of events and experiences.

How long do you need to arrive at a B1 level? It will greatly depend on your starting point and your willingness to work in between lessons. More detailed description about about language proficiency levels as per CEFR can be found here.

Please note that 24 hour notice is required to cancel or reschedule an upcoming lesson.

Lessons can be cancelled or rescheduled with 24 hour notice by notifying the teacher directly. If the teacher receives less than 24 hour notice the lesson will be charged in full.
